Overview

This reference design demonstrates the use of the AWR1843AOP, a 76-GHz to 81-GHz, single-chip, frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) mmWave sensor with an integrated antenna on package (AoP). The sensor also has integrated DSP, MCU, and a hardware accelerator for fast Fourier transform (FFT) processing.

The AWR1843AOP sensor helps developers achieve a faster time to market for use cases, including obstacle detection for smart door opening, smart trunk opening, and parking assistance. The small form factor enables placement of the sensor in locations like door handles and bumpers. It provides flexibility to Tier 1s and carmakers in planning end-use cases with small space constraints.

  • Approximate azimuth field of view (FoV) of ±70° and elevation FoV of ±70°
  • Signal processing for point-cloud detection handled onboard AWR1843AOP using the integrated HWA, DSP, and R4F
  • Integrated antenna on package (AoP) and small form factor enables small mounting positions, including door handles and bumpers
