Implement efficient power supplies with analog PFC & LLC controllers

High power factor AC-to-DC power conversion with lower distortion for all regions and topologies

Power factor correction (PFC) systems reduce the burden on power distribution systems to meet regulatory standards. Our PFC integrated circuits enable a higher power factor by precisely sensing voltage and current while also minimizing total harmonic distortion.

Our PFC controller solutions enable you to achieve higher light-load efficiency from burst mode and implement subtopologies optimized for simplicity or performance. For example, there are PFC controllers for single-phase or interleaved applications depending on density, thermal and electromagnetic interference requirements.

>95% Efficiency, 1kW Analog Control AC/DC Reference Design for 5G Telecom Rectifier

This 54VDC, 1,000W output reference design targets 5G telecom power and industrial AC/DC power supplies. The system has low total current harmonic distortion, with a 30% load at <12%, a 50% load at <8%, and a 100% load at <5.5%.

An Interleaved PFC Preregulator for High-Power Converters

Interleaving PFC preregulators can reduce the overall magnetics volume and have the added benefit of reducing root-mean-square current in the boost capacitor. This topic evaluates the benefits of interleaved PFC preregulators.

Convert DC voltages from high to low with higher power density, efficiency and stability

In switched-mode power supplies, lightning, server and consumer applications, the inductor-inductor-capacitor (LLC) topology has a smaller electromagnetic interference footprint than hard-switching pulse-width modulators. Many LLC controllers offer integrated gate drivers with features such as X-capacitor discharge with soft burst-mode in and out and standard protection.

Modern DC/DC systems need more integrated features, higher resonant frequencies, advanced control law and protections, and optimized battery charging. New use cases for LLC controllers are emerging for vehicles and chargers from architectural trade-offs plus functional safety standards for autonomous vehicles. Our LLC controller portfolio addresses these challenges.
